Fifty Days at Iliam, 1978
My inclusion of the photos linearly here does not do this series justice. It must be experienced in its room at the Philadelphia Museum; part of my project is going to explore its physical orientation. I also just love this so much.
After reading a synopsis of the Iliad to reacquaint myself with the poem, things have really starting to click for my independent study. For example, in Battle of the Achaeans (fourth one down), the triangles everywhere were really puzzling me…but once I realized that they were labeled with names of the gods, who actually were very involved with the outcomes of the battles, I kind of see them as these finite, geometric shapes amidst the chaos of battle. THIS IS SO COOL
